Payload CMS
Payload released version 3.57 on September 25. This one had some significant features introduced.
Some updates include:
The biggest feature is the ability to drag and drop or copy/paste images into the Lexical editor. Big news!
Changing the slug of your document used to break live preview. Now anymore! The preview url regenerates when you save the document.
The ability to format the document url in the list view with
admin.formatDocURL. This lets you control how your clickable links in the list view shows up, so you can control the document's URL.Conditionally enabled blocks using
filterOptionson your blocks. Now you can enable only the blocks you want enabled based onuser, siblingData, and more.Virtual relationship fields now support the
hasManyoption. Load up those virtual fields.Creating form submissions from the admin panel when using the form builder plugin. I guess you couldn't do that before.
One bug fix worth calling out:
groupByfor polymorphic relationships now works. It threw errors before, but now this should work as expected.
Be on the lookout for a new upgrade guide coming soon to go through versions 3.51 to the future 3.60. If you want to see previous upgrade guides, you can see them in this playlist on YouTube. I actually can't wait to use the top two features above in one of my next projects.
Recent video:
If you missed it, I released a video tutorial on how to use custom views. I show you how to add Plausible analytics to your admin UI.
Figma
Figma released a Zapier integration. You can now automate things like sending file update notifications and more.
Big news if you're on Figma Starter or Education: you can now use Sites. There are a bunch of new updates, too, but I don't want to spend too much time on Figma.
Also in Figma news:
You can remote access their MCP server and get Make resources.
Connect your GitHub repo to allow access to code files with a single click.
The singularity is upon us.
Next.js, Shadcn, and Vercel
Next backported some bug fixes to version 14.2 and 15.5, but it doesn't appear that there's been any big movement here. The common thread throughout all the canary pushes: turbopack and cache components.
There are no updates to Shadcn since I last wrote, so you're not missing anything there.
Anyone else enjoying the Vercel and Cloudflare feud? I'm keeping an eye on it. But it's much less juicy than the WordPress meltdown earlier in the year.
Vercel does appear to be making moves on Cloudflare domains at least. Vercel started selling domains at-cost like Cloudflare does. It'll take a lot more than that for me to drop Cloudflare altogether, though.
In less exciting Vercel news, you can now filter deployments by author. This comes in handy if you have a lot of people writing to the same project in Vercel.
V0 is still all vibes. So that's cool.
Cloudflare
Speaking of Cloudflare, they're rolling out every feature to every customer. They're starting with SSO. It's an interesting business model they're choosing: self-service by default. We'll see how this pans out.
Cloudflare has announced an investment in Astro and TanStack. This investment comes alongside Netlify and Webflow. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the Vercel conflict.
Cloudflare now allows free access to their developer tools to students. This is also extended to non-profits. If you're a student or a part of a non-profit organization, it's worth checking out!
Tailwind
Nothing new for Tailwind—you're not missing anything here.
AI news
Allow me a moment to write about my thoughts on AI. I'm still a firm believer that the hype around AI diminished with GPT-5's launch. I'm happy to debate that as a still enthusiastic user of AI for many things. But now that the hype is fading, I'm hoping we can now start talking about the real topics of AI. Topics like the impact on copyright law, artists and authors, and the environment.
OpenAI rolled out project sharing in business plans. Now you can stalk your co-workers' projects! They've also released some new compliance and admin features for security reasons. Outside of that, the "new" features they mention in the linked article are not new. We've been able to connect Gmail, Google Calendar, and more almost a year.
They also released Pulse to Pro users. It seeks to do research and deliver personalized updates based on your chats and apps. They say it's a step in making ChatGPT more useful.
But to me it sounds like a security and privacy nightmare. Beyond that, did they release yet another AI summarizer? Don't we have enough of those?
I don't hate the premise, though. It's a way to keep all our notifications curated in one place. That's better than having to go seek it on through our apps and notifications. But what if I miss something?!
No new news from Cursor, so you're not missing anything there.
Claude is now available in Microsoft 365 Copilot. It's getting crowded in there. Oh, it's generally available in Xcode, too. It's much less crowded in there.
Railway
This news is for those who build templates or have other methods of making money with Railway. You now have the ability to withdraw money more easily with Stripe.
IPv4 private networks are now available on Railway. We've been able to do this with IPv6 for a while. But now Railway supports services and applications that need IPv4.
Railpack is now the default builder on Railway. Not much changes with this news, but it is news.

Astro
Should I start writing about Astro? It's next on my list to start learning and teaching.
What did I miss? There’s so much happening in modern web dev that I’m sure I have missed something. Please share your thoughts in the comments or reply to this email. I want to address your suggestions and may include them in future newsletters.
Thanks for reading. See you in the next one.
